After 14 years as leader of his party and nearly 10 as premier, Brad Wall’s announced he’s retiring and would stay on as Saskatchewan’s leader until his successor’s chosen.

The 51-year-old Wall, who’s in his third term, says the decision to step away from politics was made around the end of June after talking with his wife.

Wall, who served as the MLA for Swift Current since 1999, was acclaimed leader of the Saskatchewan Party in 2004.

He was first elected premier in 2007.

His party went on to win two more elections in 2011 and 2016, when the Saskatchewan Party won 51 out of 61 seats.

But his popularity took a hit after the recent budget that saw the province post a deficit of $685-million.
