Legendary author Salman Rushdie says he’s not surprised by the behaviour of the U-S President who continues to face a backlash for blaming both sides at a deadly protest in Charlottesville, Virginia this past weekend.
Rushdie said in an interview in Toronto yesterday while prompting his new novel “The Golden House,” that if you’d lived in New York as he has for the past twenty years, you’d have Donald Trump’s number.
Rushdie said it’s as if Trump seems to have great difficulty in condemning neo-Nazis and as a result goes on bizarre rants where he makes false moral equivalencies between the extreme right and the left.

He also doesn’t think much of the options available should Trump be impeached.  Next in line is Vice President Mike Pence, then House Speaker Paul Ryan and then Senate Leader Orrin Hatch.  Rushdie concludes that it’s not particularly an optimistic forecast.

Rushdie’s new novel “The Golden House,” is set against the backdrop of the last eight years of U.S. politics.
