ATTEMPTED TERRORIST ATTACK IN NEW YORK CITY INJURES SUSPECT, 3 OTHERS

Mayor Bill de Blasio calls a blast in the subway system this morning near Times Square an ‘attempted terrorist attack’.
A pipe bomb, strapped to a man, injured him while three others were treated for ringing in their ears and headaches.
The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Akayed Ullah, was being treated for burns and cuts to his abdomen.

Police say he made statements indicating support for the Islamic State claiming he was self-radicalized through the group’s online propaganda.
Authorities say the native of Bangladesh came to the U.S. seven years ago on a preferential visa for those with relatives who are American citizens or permanent residents.
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders says the incident shows the need for ”immigration reform,” adding Congress should work with the president, stressing the need to ”protect our borders” and calling for a ”merit-based” immigration system.
