Singer-songwriter Paul Simon is the latest music legend to announce his retirement from the road after a farewell tour.
The 76-year-old made it official in a message posted online.
”I’ve often wondered what it would feel like to reach the point where I’d consider bringing my performing career to a natural end. Now I know: it feels a little unsettling, a touch of exhilarating, and something of a relief,” Simon wrote.
He cites the death of close friend and lead guitarist Vincent N’guini as another reason for his decision.
In addition, Simon says touring takes away from time with family which ”detracts from the joy of playing.”
The ”Homeward Bound — The Farewell Tour” kicks off May 16 in Vancouver, ending July 15 at Hyde Park in London.
Simon plays Toronto June 12 at Air Canada Centre.
Tickets for the 29 show tour go on sale February 8.
