It appears an increased consumption of processed food can lead to an increased cancer risk.
A large population-based study looked at more than 100,000 French participants.
It found a 10 per cent increase in so-called “ultra-processed foods” was linked with a 12 per cent increase in cancer risk.
Ultra-processed foods include such products as mass-produced bread and industrialized confectionary, and have increased levels of saturated fat, sugar and salt, along with a lower fibre and vitamin density.
