POVERTY REDUCTION PROJECT HEARS FROM CANADIANS

Canadians want the federal government to find a way to make it easier to cover the basic costs of living – as part of a sweeping poverty-reduction strategy.

And Social Development Minister Jean-Yves Duclos adds that a key message from the thousands of Canadians who took part in consultations on the plan – pressed the need to make it more affordable to pay the rent and buy healthy food.

The Liberals have promised a poverty reduction strategy before the end of their mandate.

The just released report comes a week before the federal budget – and provides a high-level overview of what the government heard during consultations last year on tackling poverty – it also provides the broad strokes of what the Liberals are likely to include in the plan – when it’s finally revealed.
