Alberta faces another challenge of its ban on B-C wines in a dispute over the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion.
The B-C Wine institute says it believes it’s unconstitutional to ban the import of a Canadian product into another province – based solely on where the product came from – and it will challenge Alberta’s move in court.
The B-C government also announced earlier this week that it is challenging the ban under the Canadian free trade agreement.
But Alberta says the ban will not be lifted until B-C backs off on a proposal to ban increased shipments of diluted bitumen – while B-C studies the impact of a potential spill – due to the expansion of Kinder Morgan’s pipeline from the Edmonton area to Burnaby.
