Sniping over party corruption and Patrick Brown’s future dominated the final Ontario Progressive Conservative leadership debate.

The four remaining candidates squabbled about the former leader’s future, with Tanya Granic Allen going so far as to say he should never be able to run under the Progressive Conservative banner again.

Granic Allen, who’s an anti-sex education campaigner, also dissed Caroline Mulroney for her association to the disgraced former leader.

“Caroline, up until a month ago, you were Patrick Brown’s star candidate, and you were happy to be his star candidate, and you sat and you said nothing while all that corruption was going on, while candidates are being bullied while members are being stripped of their memberships,” Granic Allen alleged.

Doug Ford can be heard agreeing with Granic Allen’s comments about Mulroney, while Christine Elliot generally tried to stay away from bad mouthing her fellow contenders.

“I’ve been a proud Progressive Conservative member for 25 years, and I’m the only one on this stage that’s already served as an MPP for 9 years, and I think it’s really important that we remember why we’re all here. We all have to come together once this is over, because the star target here is Kathleen Wynne, not each other,” Elliot explained.

But Granic Allen repeatedly asked her competitors if they would reopen nomination contests where there have been allegations of interference and bullying.

Ford said he would re-open problematic races, Elliott said she would ensure rules were followed so races could be conducted properly, while Mulroney also promised to take action.

Ontarians who would like to vote for the PC leader now have until Monday March 5th to register as members. The original deadline was Thursday March 1st. Voting begins Friday, March 2nd with the leader announced at a Markham convention on Saturday the 10th.
