International Women’s Day has been acknowledged around the world today at events, including marches and demonstrations in Asia.
Hundreds of activists protested today in the Philippines against President Rodrigo Duterte, who they say is among the worst violators of women’s rights in Asia.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is in Toronto for International Women’s Day, where he will receive the 2018 Catalyst for Change Award and deliver remarks at the Equal Voice International Women’s Day luncheon. Trudeau says it’s important that men have the conversation about gender equality.
“We need to be allies and partners, and if men aren’t part of this conversation, then we don’t get anywhere,” Trudeau explained to CBC Radio.
Earlier on Thursday, Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne delivered remarks at the Young Women’s Empowerment Breakfast at Mississauga City Hall alongside Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie.
