Federal officials have been closely scrutinizing ways to have online services like Netflix and Amazon – agree voluntarily to remit sales taxes.
The news comes from briefing notes provided to Heritage Minister Melanie Joly – and shows how certain governments around the world have required foreign-based streaming services to register with the government – in order to collect and pay taxes – rather than imposing new taxes on the services.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has remained adamant that the Liberals won’t increase taxes – on customers with online service subscriptions.
