A learning resource on Indigenous lands, languages and culture in Canada was launched in Toronto yesterday – after two years of input from members of the communities the educational tool covers.
The Indigenous Peoples Atlas of Canada was funded by the Canadian government.
It includes a four-volume set of books, an online interactive atlas with an accompanying app, and giant floor maps.
Charlene Bearhead – worked as the education adviser on the project. She says the resource will allow Indigenous children to see themselves and their people – in a respectful and meaningful way.
The atlas will soon be introduced into classrooms across Canada, along with educational tools for teachers.
