Rocco Achampong led the legal challenge against Premier Doug Ford’s plan to cut Toronto City Council from 47 to 25 wards.

And now that it’s a done deal for a 25-ward election on October 22nd, the lawyer and former ward 13 council candidate has decided he will not run for a seat in a much smaller city council.

“I’ve made the decision, and I’ve come to peace with the decision I’ve made. I slept well on it, and this is not an election that I will be participating in,” Achampong told CP24 Friday morning.

Rocco Achampong was also a regular guest on Zoomer Radio’s Fight Back with Libby Znaimer during the legal challenge.

He admits it would be difficult for him to run in a much larger ward and with only a month to go. He also feels that many of the important city issues have been eclipsed by the court proceedings.

The Ontario Court of Appeal ruling earlier this week sided with the Ontario Progressive Conservative government in allowing the municipal election to go ahead with 25 wards while the appeals process continues.
