In his acceptance speech, Tory thanked the people of the city for ”your confidence, for your support, for their inspiration and for this historic mandate that they’ve given me.”
Earlier, Keesmaat congratulated Tory but vowed to keep lobbying for affordable housing, a rent-to-own program, evidence-based transit planing and tearing down the eastern portion of the Gardiner Expressway.
As for the new, smaller city council, 13 incumbents lost, including Norm Kelly, Giorgio Mammoliti, Joe Mihevc, Vincent Crisanti, Frank Di Giorgio, Maria Augimeri and Jon Burnside.
Bonnie Crombie’s been re-elected Mississauga mayor, capturing 77% of the vote while Brampton has a new mayor as former Ontario PC leader Patrick Brown defeated Linda Jeffrey.
