Robert Bowers, who was shot and wounded in a gun battle with police, agreed to a court-appointed lawyer and will return to court Thursday.
U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions says this was not just an attack on the Jewish faith, but ”an attack on all people of faith.”
He adds it cannot and will not be tolerated.
Sessions made the remarks during a discussion on the future of religious liberty in Boston.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump will visit Pittsburgh Tuesday and reaction is been mixed.
One of the rabbis at the Tree of Life Synagogue, Jeffrey Myers, says it would be his honour while leaders of one Jewish group wrote an open letter to Trump, saying he was not welcome until he denounced white nationalism.
