Zoomer women may want to cut back or eliminate diet drinks after reading this news.
New research suggests that diet beverages may increase risk of stroke, heart disease and early death in post-menopausal women.
The new study found that women who drink more artificially sweetened beverages had a 23 per cent greater chance to have a stroke and 29 per cent more likely to develop heart disease, while 16 per cent were more likely to die early from “any cause” when compared to infrequent consumers of diet drinks.
But the researchers say this was an observational study that may be influenced by dietary habits, sleep and stress.
Moreover, the information was self-reported by the participants, which means that it may not be entirely accurate.
You can read about the research in the publication STROKE.
