Jackie Shane, the black, transgender soul singer who packed Toronto nightclubs in the 1960s, has died at the age of 78.

Cause of death has not been released.
Born in Nashville, Shane always considered Toronto home.
However, she left show business in 1971 and returned to Nashville where she lived in anonymity for decades.
A two-CD set of her live and studio recordings released in 20-17, called ”Any Other Way,” was nominated for best historical album at this year’s Grammy Awards.
