The Toronto man, who murdered his wife two days after she filed for divorce, has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 14 years.

43-year-old former neurosurgeon Mohammed Shamji pleaded guilty last month to the second-degree murder  of his 40-year-old physician wife, Elana Fric-Shamji, a well-respected family doctor.
Justice John McMahon says the case is yet another tragic instance of domestic homicide that he sees far too often.
Outside the University Avenue courthouse, the victim’s mother, Ana Fric, said there was no penalty that the court could give Shamji, that could ever justify what happened to the family; especially the couple’s 3 children.
“At this time of year, everywhere they turn they see memories of Mother’s Day, (that’s) only made their pain worse.  Instead of making cards and trinkets for their mother, they lay flowers at her grave.”
