The Toronto International Film Festival has announced it’s opening film for 2019 and it’s a festival first:
”Once were Brothers: Robbie Robertson and The Band” will have it’s world premier as the festival opener, marking the first time TIFF will open with a Canadian made documentary.
According to a news release issued Thursday, the film tells the story of the Ontario born musician’s early life and the formation of ”one of the most enduring groups in the history of popular music”  and includes interviews with such musical heavy-hitters as Bruce Springsteen, Eric Clapton and Van Morrison.
The film is directed by Daniel Rohler and inspired by Robertson’s memoir ‘Testimony’ which was released in 2016.
The documentary will play at the TIFF opening night Gala at Roy Thompson Hall in downtown Toronto on September 5th.
The festival runs from September 5th to 15th.
