A Toronto homeowner, whose adult children have nut allergies, has lost a two-year fight to remove a large, black walnut tree from their backyard.
(City of Toronto)
The owner of the home at 45 Addison Crescent, in the Don Mills-Lawrence neighbourhood, fears the children might be hit and injured by any falling walnuts as well as having an allergic reaction.
The city has denied the request arguing it’s a ”valuable part of the urban forest.”
Had city hall agreed to the request, staff say it could have potentially led to the removal of hundreds of street trees and thousands of park and private walnut trees in Toronto.
Staff also point out there are thousands of other nut-bearing trees, which also could be the subject of similar concerns.
