Justin Trudeau promises to ban all military-style assault rifles as well as take steps towards restricting and banning handguns.
”We’ve also heard very clearly from a number of cities, like Toronto and others, who said that they want more tools to restrict handguns within their municipalities, and that’s why we’re going to work with them and work with provinces and territories to give them the power to do just that,” added Trudeau.
As part of this plan, Liberals pledge to protect the rights of law-abiding hunters and vow not to re-establish the controversial long-gun registry, scrapped by the previous Harper government.
Trudeau also promises to create a buy-back program for all legally purchased assault rifles, and a two-year amnesty while the program’s being set up.
The Liberal leader also says he’ll speak with Jagmeet Singh about the brown and blackface scandal.
The NDP leader says he’s open to talking, if they do so in private.
During a stop near Windsor, Singh also highlighted his universal pharmacare plan, proposing to spend $10-billion-a-year to ensure all necessary medication is free at the point-of-care.
Meanwhile, in Moncton, Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer unveiled plans to invest in more M-R-I and C-T scan equipment.
Out in Calgary, Green party leader Elizabeth May promises better bus and rail service, with a goal to reach zero-carbon public ground transportation everywhere in Canada in 20 years.
