Have YOU talked with your doctor about osteoporosis prevention?

If you’re a woman and over 50, you’re being advised by the experts to have that conversation.

One of those bone health experts is Luba Slatkovska.

She dropped by the ZoomerPlex during the Osteoporosis Awareness and Prevention Month to talk about the best ways to prevent poor bone health as we age, starting with proper daily intake of vitamin D.

“1000 International Units a day is healthy,” Luba explained, “I don’t really do vitamin D during the Summer but I make sure I get enough sunlight, around 20 minutes a day, but I definitely take vitamin D in the Winter. And then exercise, so building that muscle strength, and also making sure you have balance. For example, for people who are 50, a really good exercise is Tai Chi because it gives you balance.”
