Citing Donald Trump’s ”failure to faithfully execute the law,” U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says she will ask the chair of the Judiciary Committee to go ahead and draw up articles of impeachment against the president.

Pelosi says the facts with respect to Trump’s dealings with Ukraine were uncontested.
”If we allow a president to be above the law, we do so surely at the peril of our republic,” said Pelosi.
Democrats could begin drafting the articles in a matter of days with a committee vote next week.
The full House could vote by Christmas.
It would then be off to the Republican-led Senate for a trial next year if most of the House votes in favour of any or all articles of impeachment.
A Senate trial would follow.
No U.S. president has been convicted in a Senate trial after impeachment.
Andrew Johnson in 1868 and Bill Clinton in 1998 were acquitted in the Senate after being impeached by the House.
Richard Nixon resigned in 1974 during the impeachment process.
