The voice of the global youth climate movement is this year’s Time magazine Person of the Year.
In making the announcement, Time says Greta Thunberg, the 16-year-old Swedish activist; the youngest to receive the honour, was selected ”for sounding the alarm about humanity’s predatory relationship with the only home we have, for bringing to a fragmented world a voice that transcends backgrounds and borders, for showing us all what it might look like when a new generation leads.’
Thunberg, in Madrid at the U.N.’s COP25 climate talks, says the honour deserves to be shared by others in the movement, adding she’s hopeful their message is finally getting through.
