With the future bright in Canadian tennis, two of the biggest talents picked up Tennis Canada’s end of year awards.

Mississauga’s Bianca Andreescu added to her trophy case that included the U.S. Open and the Lou Marsh award by being named Canada’s female player of the year. She was named the winner on Wednesday.

On Thursday, Richmond Hill’s Denis Shapovalov was named the men’s winner. He picked up his first career ATP victory when he won the Stockholm Open in October. He followed that up a month later with a runner-up result at the Paris Masters.

He also took part in Canada’s near miss at the Davis Cup when Canada surged into the finals before losing to Spain.
