Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says talks are ongoing with provinces and territories on resuming economic activity.
While he understands everyone wants to know when things will get back to normal, the prime minister cautions Canadians must ”stay the course” as we’re not yet through this first wave of COVID-19.
”The reality is, it is going to be weeks still,” adds Trudeau.
”We recognize that it is going to be important to get our economy going and that we will have to do it in phases. We will have to remain vigilant until such a point as a vaccine against COVID-19 is found.”
The prime minister does say jobs in some sectors are lower-risk than others, so workers in those fields might be able to return to work sooner.
As for re-opening the border with the U.S., Trudeau expects non-essential travel restrictions to remain in place for ”several weeks.”
