Regardless of when COVID-19 related restrictions are eventually lifted, many Canadians would not be so quick to immediately return to life before the pandemic.
In fact, the latest survey from Angus Reid Institute shows most would wait, for a couple of weeks, or until the number of known cases in their provinces had significantly declined, before ending self-isolation.
The poll also found 77% say it’s too soon to start relaxing social distancing and business closures.
While 39% believe the impacts of the shutdown on public protection and on businesses and the economy should carry equal weight with decision makers, 52% still feel it’s better to err on the side of reducing infection risk.
Other findings; 46% say restrictions in their province should lift sometime in May or June, with another 28% saying they should remain until between July and October.
Concern about catching the virus has fallen for the first time since early March; dropping from 73% two weeks ago to 61% now.
Canadians are more concerned about spreading it to others (70%) versus becoming sick themselves (30%).
A majority (67%) say Ottawa’s done a good job of handing the pandemic.
