It was a milestone day in Mississauga in the fight against COVID-19.
“Mississauga today is reporting zero, zero new cases,” Mayor Bonnie Crombie told a news conference Wednesday, “You heard me right, no new cases of COVID today in Mississauga and boy am I happy!”
This was a first for Mississauga since the pandemic began.
But Peel Region’s medical officer of health is warning this achievement does not signify victory against a virus which he says continues to circulate in the community.
Dr. Lawrence Loh says zero daily cases does not and will not mean that all is like before.
Loh says the decreasing cases in both Mississauga and Brampton, which recorded 11 new daily cases, means Peel Region is “close” to advancing to stage three of the province’s economic reopening plan.
In Toronto, community centres and indoor pools reopen on Monday July 20th. In making the announcement, Mayor John Tory said indoor capacity will be limited and visitors will be screened.
