Areas of Ontario outside Greater Toronto, Hamilton, Niagara and Windsor Essex are now in Stage 3 of the province’s COVID-19 economic reopening plan.
This stage allows restaurant owners to offer indoor service.
Bars, gyms and theatres may also reopen, although Cineplex Entertainment says it’s still reviewing the province’s rules for Stage 3, so won’t be reopening its theatres just yet.
“We’ve fully sanitized. We have hand sanitizers hanging all over the walls, we have partitions, the plexiglass partitions at our reception and takeout counter within the restaurant, we have cleaning protocols, we actually have a staff member who does nothing but clean restrooms, wipe down door handles, do all of that stuff,” Corrigan explained. Stage 3 rules also raise the limits on the size of indoor gatherings to a maximum of 50 people, while as many as 100 people are allowed to congregate outside.
Residents of areas still in stage 2 will find out on Monday from Premier Doug Ford whether they will soon move into stage 3 as well.
Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. David Williams, has said he hopes all parts of the province will be in Stage 3 by the end of the month based on COVID-19 numbers trending lower.
