PIANIST LEON FLEISHER DIES OF CANCER

He rose to piano prominence as a child prodigy in the 1940s.

Renowned American pianist Leon Fleisher has died of cancer.

His playing career was disrupted by an injury to his right hand, forcing hims to channel his career into mastering left-hand repertoire.

30-years later, after a series of therapies, he regained use of his right hand and flourished again with a two-handed career comeback.

Fleisher made his his debut with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra and went on to international fame and a prolific recording career.

He later focused on teaching and conducting.

Leon Fleisher was 92.
