Ultimatum on Parliament Hill.
Bloc Quebecois Leader Yves-Francois Blanchet says he’s going to try to force a fall election if Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, his chief-of-staff Katie Telford and Finance Minister Bill Morneau don’t step down.
Blanchet prefers they resign, however, if they stay on then he says he’s prepared to table a motion of non-confidence.
If that passed with the support of other parties, it would mean an election campaign in the midst of the pandemic.
”Which is more dangerous – the mismanagement of a crisis, or taking the time to change the people who are managing the crisis?,” Blanchet asks.
He has not formally spoken with the Conservatives or NDP.
Tory leadership candidate Erin O’Toole calls the government ”tired, scandal-plagued and ethically challenged” which needs ”to be put out of its misery.”
New Democrat Charlie Angus accuses Blanchet of throwing a ”hissy fit” and that Canadians want the opposition to pressure the government to do what’s best for Canadians.
Foreign Affairs Minister Francois-Philippe Champagnes says the Liberals will always be ready for an election but that health and safety are top of mind of Canadians right now.
