Some fans of Leonard Cohen aren’t happy at the use of the Canadian great’s “Hallelujah” at the final night of Thursday’s Republican National Convention.
The song was actually performed twice. During the closing fireworks show, a recording of an interpretation by Tori Kelly was played.
Afterwards, it was performed live by opera singer Christopher Macchio. Kelly said neither she nor her representatives were asked for permission to play the song.
Cohen’s song about a failed relationship was originally released in 1984.
Cohen died on November 7, 2016…the day before Donald Trump was elected President.
