Soul legend James Brown recorded his 1963 album Live at the Apollo. The album was recorded at the historic Apollo Theatre in Harlem.
Brown’s record company, King Records, was against recording a live album so Brown arranged the production himself and covered the initial costs.
The album went on to spend 66 weeks at the top of the charts and was the first of four live albums that Brown would record at the Apollo.
Rolling Stone Magazine listed it as number 25 on their list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
