On August 11th, 1962, Neil Sedaka started a two week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with ‘Breaking Up Is Hard To Do’, his first US No.1 as an artist. It reached No.7 on the UK chart.
Sedaka recorded this song twice, in 1962 and 1975, in two vastly different arrangements, and is considered to be his signature song.
It was co-written by Sedaka and Howard Greenfield.
