A Canadian Pacific Railway train derailment occurred in Toronto yesterday that caused a diesel leak close to a residential area. While no injuries have been reported, Transport Minister Marc Garneau said approximately 1,200 litres (317 gallons) of diesel fuel were leaked.
A Canadian Pacific spokesman confirmed that the rail car in question did contain dangerous goods, but said there were no public safety concerns, and that there were no track issues, no signalling issues, and no mechanical issues, thus blaming the incident as a result of human error. Toronto police said there were no charges involved in the incident. Libby speaks with Councillor Josh Matlow about this recent derailment which happened in his ward, as well Councillor Joe Mihevc will also weigh in, and we’ll be taking your calls as well.
