Toronto’s municipal election campaign . A new survey finds that 80 candidates running for city council seats in Toronto have pledged to boost road safety efforts across the city if elected. But The Toronto Centre for Active Transportation also found that more than a dozen incumbent councilors from the city’s suburbs did not even bother to respond. Is this one of those issues that divides the centre and suburbs? Jennifer Keesmaat is the only Toronto mayoral candidate who has pledged to drop speeds to 30 kilometres per hour for all residential roads. Libby chats with Nancy Lea Smith, the Director of the Toronto Centre for Active Transportation, Giorgio Mammoliti, the councilor for Ward 8 – York West, and Murtaza Haider, associate professor for Real Estate Management at the Ted Rogers School of Management at Ryerson University.
