The Nobel Literature laureate who once described himself as a “barefoot colonial” has died.
V-S Naipaul passed away Saturday at his home in London, England just a few days short of his 86th birthday.
The Caribbean writer of Indo-Nepalese descent was born in Trinidad with British citizenship.
His first novel, “The Mystic Masseur” was published in 1957. In 1971 Naipaul won the Man Booker Prize for “In A Free State.”
In 2001 he received the Nobel Prize for Literature for ” having united perceptive narrative and incorruptible scrutiny in works that compel us to see the presence of suppressed histories.”
