Zoomers of a certain vintage will recall the first time they saw a four wheeled rocket roaming over the sand; sleek, stylish and way too cool.

The Dune Buggy was the invention of Bruce Meyers, a surfer and boat builder who melded old Volkswagen Beetle parts with a curving fiberglass body.

His first, a two-seater called the “Meyers Manx,” was built in 1964, inspired thousands of imitators and turned the dune buggy into an emblem of 60’s California cool.  Subsequent dune buggies retailed for about $900.

Bruce Meyers has died at the age of 94.

His wife confirms the cause of death was a blood disorder.
