The House of Commons Industry Committee looking into last week’s Rogers nation-wide outage will meet at least twice later this month to investigate.

It will include testimony from officials at Rogers, the CRTC and federal industry minister Phillipe Francois Champagne, who has called the outage ‘unacceptable’ and directed the major telecom companies to assisting each other during outages and a communication protocol to better inform Canadians during emergencies.

Millions were left without service for over 15 hours that disrupted phone and internet services, healthcare, banks and policing. The outage also prevented calls to 911 services in some Canadian cities. The committee wants answers about the cause, its impact and the best way to avoid any future outages.
