With Valentine’s Day around the corner, we asked our hosts here at Zoomer Radio to share their favourite songs about love and romance.

Make sure to keep Zoomer Radio tuned in on February 14th as we’ll be playing the Original Greatest Romantic Hits all day. Let us take care of the music for whatever you have planned this Valentine’s Day.

Sam Houston

I am choosing 2 songs

COMMODORES – Easy

MARVIN GAYE – Let’s Get It On

Impossible to pick just one song about love – especially because my 2 choices are VERY different

The Commodores hit “Easy” has me chillin’ with my love while Marvin Gaye suggests a little more ‘activity’ *wink wink*

Jane Brown

My picks are:

Everything I Do by Bryan Adams. This was my and Myron’s first dance wedding song! The lyrics are exactly how I feel about my husband. We will often dance to it at home in our kitchen.

I also love Still the One sung by Shania Twain. It’s such a romantic song but it’s also about real life. No matter what goes down – disagreements, life’s challenges – the person you love, is “still the one”.

Morning Zoom Producer – Andy Wilson

Let’s go with Bob Marley – Could You Be Loved – this was the song my wife and I entered our wedding to. We love reggae music. We’re happiest on a beach together with a drink in our hand, enjoying each others company, and this song epitomizes that feeling for us

Joe Cocker – You are So Beautiful – I love Joe’s vulnerable voice. It’s how I think of my wife every day. If only she could see herself through my eyes

Eva D

My favorite romantic tune takes me back to my wedding day in 1997.
The song we played for our first dance together was from Mel Carter…”Hold Me, Thrill Me. Kiss me”…need I say more?

Another great love song I often play is from R&B soul singer Brook Benton and his song “So many ways”…pure and simple lyrics but very meaningful.

Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone!

Liz West

My favourite romantic song is Kiss From A Rose by one of the most romantic voices there is – SEAL. He could sing the phone book and make it sound romantic right? That song was a really big deal in 1995, and it didn’t hurt that it was added to the blockbuster Batman Forever soundtrack. SEAL is my superhero!

Robbie Lane

My pick speaks for itself – “All You Need Is Love” by The Beatles. Such a simple message, but still so true.

Ziggy

What a feat to choose a favourite Love Song! Should it be happy, sad, full of regret or longing?

After much thought, I looked back to my childhood, with AM Radio always playing in our kitchen.

“This Is My Song” sung by Petula Clark is my choice. The gentleness of the lyrics and beautiful orchestration are exquisite. Listening to it brings back such sentiment of a world of love and Joy.

Gene Stevens

Our favourite love song – for Valentine’s Day, and any other day – is the classic Elvis song from ‘Blue Hawaii’. ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’ was not only the concert-closing song for Elvis shows in the 70s, it was also the relationship-opening song for Trudy and me. We first met at Collingwood’s ‘ElvisFest’. Now, years later, when those opening notes come on the radio. we still stop and smile: “…darling so it goes, somethings are meant to be.”

Dean Hollin

‘If’ by David Gates/Bread

‘All of You’ — written by Cole Porter.  Fred Astaire’s version probably my preferred.

If you’re looking for something romantic to watch, our sister station ONETV’s Great Weekend Movies are all romance and heartfelt drama all the time, all month long in February.
