The Ford PCs at Queen’s Park are offering a hint of what might be in new legislation to give people paid time off work when they are sick or need to get a COVID vaccine.
Government House Leader Paul Calandra says they are working to fill the gaps left open by the federal sickness recovery program.
“Obviously, we have to make improvements so we can address the vaccine paid day for essential workers to get vaccines in their arms as those vaccines become available, and we’re seeing we need to do more on eligibility and we’re going to move quickly to get that done,” Calandra explained.
It has only been in the past two days the governing Tories have indicated there is a shortfall in the federal program which allows for 500-dollars a week for up to 4 weeks, but only if an employee has tested positive for COVID or is forced to isolated because of COVID outbreak at work.
The premier himself has yet to comment on a change of direction over paid sick time. He is scheduled to host a virtual news conference on Thursday morning at 9:45 while isolating after coming into contact with a staff member who tested positive for COVID.
