The National Ballet of Canada has announced its 2021-22 season, marking its 70th anniversary and a return to the stage after more than 20 months.
It will also be the final season programmed Artistic Director Karen Kain before she steps down at the end of June.
The new season opens with Sharing the Stage a residency at Harbourfront Centre in August featuring four socially distanced outdoor performances.
In November, the company will perform Crystal Pite’s Angels’ Atlas that fittingly captures the loss, longing and collective strength of the past year.
And of course, fan favourite The Nutcracker returns in December.
In March, the company will present some world premieres and the new season ends in June with the long anticipated world premiere of Karen Kain’s new staging of Swan Lake, originally scheduled for her 50th anniversary with the National Ballet last year.
