The way Canada’s Chief Public Officer sees it all existing policies, including vaccine passports, need to be ”re-examined” in the coming weeks because it’s clear that the world will be dealing with this virus for months or years.
Dr. Theresa Tam says there will be more waves and that some will be quite severe and disruptive.
And while we need to be ready, she adds we must have ”longer term, sustained approaches and capacity building so we’re not in a crisis mode all the time.”
She points out the Public Health Agency is talking with its provincial and territorial counterparts to chart a road forward.
Together Tam says they will review the current ”suite of measures,” including border restrictions and travel limitations.
”I think the whole concept is, we do need to get back to some normalcy.”
According to her Canada’s efforts should be focused on preventing severe cases through vaccinations, rather than stopping all new infections, and that the priority should be to deploy as many booster shots as possible.
Currently, only half of those eligible have had their third dose.
