After previously recommending boosters should be considered discretionary for all adults and immunocompromised children aged 12 to 17, the National Advisory Committee on Immunization is now strongly recommending those two age groups get a booster or third dose.
Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam says the loosening of public health restrictions, like mask mandates, an increase in personal contacts, and some waning of immunity have all likely contributed to the rising levels of infection.
”It doesn’t matter where you are in Canada right now. I would advise getting that booster shot,” says Tam.
NACI also recently strongly recommended a second booster or fourth shot for those 80 and older, and those living in long-term care and other congregate settings.
Currently, Ontarians 60 and older are able to book their fourth dose.
Meanwhile, the province is reporting another 276 hospitalized with COVID for a total of 1,366 and six more patients are in intensive care for a total of 190.
