Queen Elizabeth has made the first of two balcony appearances Thursday at Buckingham Palace as Platinum Jubilee celebrations get underway in London.
The monarch was joined by working members of the royal family including Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, and Prince William and wife Kate, Duchess of Cambridge.
Formal celebrations of the Queen’s 70 years as monarch began earlier Thursday with Trooping the Colour, a review of British military traditions.
The four day jubilee is giving people a chance to reflect on the the huge changes that have taken place during the Queen’s reign.
Over the long weekend, neighbourhood organizations are expected to hold street parties around the country as a joyful celebration for a remarkable woman.
Princess Elizabeth became Queen in 1952 after the death of her father King George the Sixth.
