Ontario’s Premier and lieutenant governor have proclaimed the accession of King Charles the Third during a ceremony at Queens Park.
“And that the King may be assured of the continued loyalty and affection of the people of Ontario and their desire that His Majesty enjoy a long and happy reign, long live the King,” proclaimed Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Dowdeswell.
After the proclamation, for the first time at Queens Park, God Save the King was sung by the Premier and his cabinet.
It was also announced the provincial memorial service for the late Queen will be held at Toronto’s St. James Cathedral a week tomorrow and the National service will be held at Christ Church Cathedral in Ottawa a week today.
The legislature adjourned last week and will resume Wednesday afternoon to pay tribute to the Queen.
There is a book of condolences on display for the public, which Ford and Dowdeswell signed on Friday.
There is also a display at Queen’s Park honouring the longest-reigning monarch, marking each of her visits to the legislature
