A former rural retreat, owned by the author of the Sherlock Homes stories, has just gone on the market in England.
It’s called Bignell Wood, in the New Forest, west of Southampton.
Its current owner, interior designer Jane McIntyre, has lived there for 16 years and believes it was bought as a birthday present for Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s second wife back in the mid-1920s.
It comes complete with house, out buildings, plenty of property and according to McIntyre’s daughter, a ghost; specifically a ghost of the author himself who is searching for a lost diary.
It’s believed Conan Doyle regularly visited the property from 1925 until his death in 1930.
The asking price is just below 3-million British pounds.
