The U-S January 6th committee has unanimously approved recommending that the US Justice Department pursue criminal charges against former President Donald Trump for his role in the failed insurrection.
During its final public hearing Monday, the nine-member bipartisan panel agreed that Trump should be prosecuted on a number of charges including conspiring to defraud the United States.
“We’ve never had a president of the United States stir up a violent attempt to block the transfer of power. I believe, nearly two years later, this is still a time of reflection and reckoning,” said Bennie Thompson, the House Democrat panel chair.
The committee also referred four Republicans to a House ethics panel for refusing to co-operating with its probe.
