Mayor Olivia Chow and Federal Minister of Sport Carla Qualtrough will announce Friday morning the amount of funding Ottawa will provide to help the city host six matches in two years.

Also on hand for the announcement at BMO Field will be Ontario’s Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, Neil Lumsden.

The Ford government previously said it would provide Toronto with $97-million in ”conditional” funding that could only go toward building lasting public infrastructure and other investments that benefit the community long after those matches.

When the city first proposed the idea of being one of the hosts five years ago, a city report estimated the cost at between $30 and $45-million.

A more recent city staff estimate puts it at about $380-million.
