Reports of West Nile Virus have been climbing here in Ontario.
This province is the hot zone for the virus this summer, with a case count that climbed 41 per cent over the past week.
Public Health Ontario says there have been 116 confirmed and probable cases in the province so far.
Toronto’s Public Health website reports 61 confirmed and probable cases.
Canadian Blood Services is using enhanced screening procedures and says it’s recently detected blood donations that were positive for West Nile virus, which can be transmitted through transfusions.
There have been no West Nile-related deaths in Canada this season.
